About the artist
Monstera Ink is an artist living and working in southern Italy, near Cilento. She learned the basics of engraving techniques at the Academy of Fine Arts in Naples and later independently explored xylographic and linoleum printing. Monstera Ink was creatively born in 2020, during the first wave of COVID-19. The name is inspired by the Monstera Deliciosa plant, known for its “monstrous” looking leaves due to deep cuts, representing an antithesis between monstrosity and delight.
“All linoleum prints are handmade, crafted with care and intention.”

About the intent
Monstera Ink’s artistic intent is to explore the concept of monstrosity within a society based on hierarchy, binarity, and patriarchy. The artist aims to depict the beauty of diversity as an indispensable value and to highlight female power by using dark archetypes such as gorgons, deadly metamorphoses, and transfeminist androids. Her subjects primarily focus on nature, metamorphosis, and the feminine imagination, drawing inspiration from esoteric and folkloric archetypes in an unsettling manner. Her works are mainly created through linoleum engravings, printed on various types of handmade paper and fabric, using techniques like spoon printing. Monstera Ink celebrates diversity and inner strength through art that challenges social and patriarchal conventions.
